Box in Box: A New Dimension in Office Space Design

Wangsi Chen's Award-Winning Design Transforms Office Interactions

Wangsi Chen's innovative office design, Box in Box, redefines the concept of workspace by introducing a unique spatial relationship. This design, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, is a testament to the power of creativity and innovation in transforming mundane spaces into dynamic environments.

Box in Box is a revolutionary design concept that places different boxes within a long box, creating an intricate interplay of spaces. This design approach establishes a multifunctional, interactive, and vibrant environment. The use of bright colors and body pleasures form the keynote of the space, emphasizing the diversity of functions and opening up new possibilities for interaction.

The inspiration behind this design is the idea of creating overlapping, interlacing, and corresponding spatial relations within a hollow area. The staircase, bar, and leisure negotiation areas are skillfully integrated, creating an exchange and interaction combination that forms a whole settlement and zoning. The sandwich design of the coffee area further enhances the exchange between the two layers, making the space more interesting.

Box in Box is realized using a variety of materials including wood veneers, coatings, tiles, dark grey painted aluminum sheets, carpets, and aluminum squares. Covering an area of 6084 square meters, the design is a testament to Wangsi Chen's ability to transform large spaces into dynamic, interactive environments.

The design project, which started in November 2017 in Wenzhou and finished in April 2018, was a challenge due to the design of the hollow area and the need to connect the original building steel structure with the suspended design box. However, the design team, which included Chuanda Fang, Changquan Lin, and Chunyi Li, successfully overcame these challenges, resulting in a design that is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing.

Box in Box is more than just a design; it is a concept that integrates life and work. As a co-working space with a theme of scientific and technological innovation, it provides resident enterprises and freelance workers with a flexible and interactive office space. This design, which is a testament to Wangsi Chen's creativity and innovation, is a deserving winner of the prestigious Silver A' Design Award.
